Hike to Blodgett Peak

Blodgett Peak Entrance

Today I hiked up part of the trail to Blodgett Peak. I started at about 1 PM, which was definitely too early, it was really host and not as much fun as going up the reservoir trail in Palmer Lake. The view wasn’t too bad, but there weren’t any open bodies of water. I went back after the water tower. It’d be a good hike if I did it in the evening and went to the summit.

The first reservior of palmer lake

I went on an awesome hike today to Mount Herman, north of town. It was raining a little bit, but it was well worth it. The rain was beautiful in the setting sun, but I didn’t see any rainbows. It was falling on the first reservoir.

The fox at the reservoir

That’s when I saw a beautiful fox, it wasn’t afraid of humans and looked at me from about 3 feet away. I think that it wanted the rest of the sandwich in my backpack.

From there, I went to the second reservior, the rain stopped by then and the second reservior was absolutely gorgeous. Very calm, deep, green water. From there I went on the trail to The Winding Staircase, which was full of Aspen trees, Columbine, Indian Paintbrush and wild strawberries. There were many paths to follow and I’ll have to explore more next time I go.

To the right, there’s a trail that leads to a plane crash, to the left, there’s more wooded areas. I can’t wait to go with my camera (instead of my camera phone) and share more.

Open Source Meetup

Thursday, June 26th, 2008

Tonight I went to the Colorado Springs Open Source Meetup. The topic covered this month was Joomla! a content management system. I had no idea how big or full featured it was, it has components to handle everything from wikis, OpenID integration, CAPTCHAs, message boards, social networking, e-commerce. I wouldn’t be surprized if you could find the kitchen sink.

The East Branch library community room is excellent, very large, sound system, projector. We also had food provided by our sponsor, so great on all points :-D

I can’t wait until the next meetup.
